Our wood carvings are made from authentic Lignum vitae – national flower and wood of Jamaica . The quality, weight, feature and durability of Lignum Vitae makes it a popular wood amongst Jamaican carvers. The grain of the wood changes according to age and this makes for the unusual, natural shadings and colouring which gives it its unique and unmistakable appearance. The carvers draw on life for their inspiration. Many of the carvers and painters follow the Rastafarian culture and so this is reflected in the art, the portrait (bust), the facial features, the detailed carving of the hair (locks) and other everyday images such as people going to market, tropical fruits and travelers.
